I discovered CrossFit in August, 2009 while researching the Paleo Diet. I ran marathons, qualified for Boston and loved weight training in the gym. I thought I was in great shape until I tried my first CrossFit workout. I had no idea how this would positively impact my life and the lives of everyone around me.
I played Football through High School and College and I knew I wanted to be involved with Physical Fitness one way or another as my career. After training in “global gyms” until early 2012 I decided to start training clients on my own. I began using more CrossFit methods in my clients workouts as well as my own. CrossFit has become an addiction for me. It’s filled two big voids that were missing since College: Camaraderie and Competitiveness. Since I’ve started doing CrossFit myself and training clients, one thing has become very obvious… It works better than any other training I’ve ever seen! I think the camaraderie and competitiveness are the biggest reasons for that. All who do it are constantly pushing to get better at such a wide variety of exercises!
I joined IRONWOOD CrossFit as a trainer from its inception. The progress of the athletes as well as the camaraderie and sense of community make me proud to be a part of IRONWOOD CrossFit.
I think everyone is an athlete at heart and should train like one. Everyone should go to the gym to get better each day. If you go to the gym, you should go to be the best you can be.
I have always loved being active. I played sports from grade school to high school and spent a lot of time outdoors with my family. I tried a slue of different exercise type programs, but none of them stuck long-term. Two years ago I was introduced to my first WOD (workout of the day) and I knew I had found the perfect fit for me. It changed the way I looked at health from every aspect not just in the gym, but nutritionally too. We made changes as a family to be intentional about what we were putting in our bodies and we were consistent being at the gym. The results came with hard work, good choices nutritionally and a continued persistence to become a better athlete. Through my growing passion for CrossFit and encouragement of my coaches, I got certified as a Level 1 CrossFit Trainer.
I continue to be inspired daily by our coaches and the athletes that walk through the doors. I love the community of people who CrossFit brings together, but more than that the family we have become at IRONWOOD CrossFit. We are all working hard, cheering alongside one another and pushing each other to be the best we can be. I look forward to continuing to be a part of this amazing gym, group of coaches and athletes for the years to come.
Being a firefighter means that my physical fitness is crucial not only to my own health, but to the lives of others. Fighting a fire without being physically fit is not only extremely difficult, but also unsafe. I love my job and always want to take care of myself so that I can serve the community to the best of my abilities. When I found CrossFit, I found a fitness program that not only was something completely different from I had done in the past, but it transferred to everyday life; for me specifically being a firefighter. CrossFit is about constantly varied, functional movements at high intensity. It keeps it exciting. I love being able to give back to others and becoming a Level 1 CrossFit Trainer gave me that opportunity. I am enjoying not only continuing as an athlete, but now coaching others on their journey of health and fitness.
Fitness is my passion, and I have always had an active, healthy lifestyle. I was born and raised in upstate New York. I am AFAA Certified, Member of NSCA. Certified in CPR/AED and First Aid. My fitness career includes working as a personal trainer, coach, manager and owner for over 30 years. Then in 2012 I found CrossFit and fell in love with it. Love the fact that CrossFit gives you a great workout NO matter your age and level of fitness. Love to inspire people to reach their goals through exercise and proper nutrition, and CrossFit is perfect for that purpose. My mantra is positive thinking, good nutrition, and functional exercise will help you achieve your personal goals.
I’m a level 1 CrossFit trainer at IRONWOOD CrossFit. Being involved in sports and athletics throughout my life, I’ve trained in various methods of fitness. I always thought I was fit. Then I started doing CrossFit in 2009 and immediately my fitness level greatly improved. Through CrossFit, I’ve set personal records in distance running and have hiked more miles in beautiful places than I ever thought possible. I have competed at all levels of triathlons including multiple Ironman races, marathons, and ultra marathons. I have regularly done rim to rim to rim hikes of the Grand Canyon. I owe my success in these endeavors to CrossFit. I enjoy CrossFit because it is physically hard, it strengthens your mind and body, and builds lasting relationships with the people around you. As a trainer at IRONWOOD CrossFit, I hope to share my experience and enthusiasm for fitness with others. I want athletes to know they are able to push themselves beyond any preconceived limit. In my off time I enjoy gardening, bike rides with my family, and romantic dinners by the light of a campfire.
From a very young age I developed a love for sports; ran track, played volleyball, and softball. I worked out in numerous gyms along the way and tried almost everything typical gyms had to offer. I started CrossFit in 2014 and found what would change everything about fitness for me. I loved CrossFit from the moment I did that first W.O.D. and have never looked back. CrossFit has not only taken me to the next level of fitness, but has offered me friendships, encouragement, and an amazing community of other athletes. CrossFit brings people together and the community, that is CrossFit, it’s inspiring and contagious. I received my CrossFit Level 1 certification in 2014 and began my journey as a trainer. I never stopped learning as a coach and athlete. As a coach I love seeing CrossFitters crush their goals and immediately set their sights on new ones.
